What We Do
We are generalists working with individuals and families of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and with most emotional and relationship problems and most diagnoses. We have a great deal of experience with clients who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety and with clients with relationship issues of all types.
We are also available to do presentations on communication skills – assertiveness training, conflict resolution, listening skills training and “self-communication” (self-awareness) as well as on parenting skills, stress management, overcoming shyness and other mental health topics.
We Have Some Areas of Specialty
1. Stress-related health problems
The medical field acknowledges that there is a link between stress and physical health. Between 60% to 80% of physical problems are thought to be related to the emotions. As an adjunct to conventional physician care we incorporate stress management into therapy sessions for clients with gastro-intestinal disorders, headaches, heart conditions, back problems, and other stress-related health problems.
2. Substance Abuse follow-up and relapse prevention
Once a client is drug-free, remaining that way is the focus. Also, when clean and sober, clients usually discover underlying depression, anxiety issues, relationship problems, etc. that are vital to address. Terry has substance abuse certification at the top level (CAADC – Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor). Several of our therapists also have substance abuse certification.
3. Children & Adolescents
We gain rapport quickly with these age groups and do family and individual work with them.
4. Counseling for couples prior to marriage
Prevention of relationship problems makes much more sense than patching things up after they have occurred. We teach conflict-resolution skills and problem-solving skills along with any other areas that need work.
5. Multi-Cultural Counseling
Our experience is extensive with almost all races and ethnic groups.
